I’m Marco Stefanelli, a physiotherapist with a practice in the centre of Civitavecchia, about 10 minutes on foot from the railway station and 20 minutes from the cruise port entrance. If you are a traveller, a cruise passenger staying in town or a yacht crew member and something hurts, you can contact me on WhatsApp: I speak conversational English and I offer short-notice appointments when available.

- Address: Via Paolo Antonini 11c, 00053 Civitavecchia (Rome)
- Language: conversational English, enough to manage the assessment and treatment

- Prices: €50 per session at the practice (first visit included); visits at your hotel or on board from €70, depending on distance
- Payment: cash or card
- Travel insurance: you receive an invoice with an English description of the service, which you can submit to your insurer
How to get here
- From the railway station: about 800 m, around 10 minutes on foot.
- From a cruise ship: walking out of the port is not recommended (busy roads, few pavements). Take the free port shuttle to Largo della Pace, the port entrance; from there the practice is about 1.5 km, around 20 minutes on foot through the town centre, or 5 minutes by taxi.
- From Riva di Traiano marina: about 5 km, around 10 minutes by car or taxi.
- By car: there is free parking nearby, but it is often busy, so allow a few extra minutes.
Common problems while travelling
Long flights, hours on a coach, heavy luggage and long days of sightseeing can bring on or worsen pain. The problems I see most often in travellers and crew are:
- low back pain and stiffness after long journeys or lifting luggage;
- neck pain and headaches linked to the neck after sleeping in a different bed or travelling;
- ankle sprains and foot pain after walking on uneven streets or excursions;
- shoulder and knee pain, including problems from physical work on board.
Most of these problems are not dangerous and improve with the right advice and activity. A short course of physiotherapy can help you understand what is going on and keep moving during your trip.
What happens at the appointment
I ask you about the problem and how it started, then I examine you to understand where the pain comes from and whether physiotherapy is the right choice. Treatment can include exercise, manual therapy and practical advice on how to manage the rest of your trip. You leave with written instructions for your exercises, in English, so you can keep going after you leave Civitavecchia.
Yacht crew
If you work on a yacht moored in Civitavecchia or at Riva di Traiano, you can book a short course of sessions during your stay. In some cases I can come on board or to the marina: write to me on WhatsApp and we will see what is possible.
When to see a doctor instead
Physiotherapy is not the right first step in every case. Call the European emergency number 112 or go to the emergency department if you have:
- pain after a fall or accident, with swelling or deformity, or you cannot put weight on the leg;
- chest pain, shortness of breath, or a painful, swollen calf after a long flight;
- back pain with numbness around the genitals or buttocks, or new problems controlling your bladder or bowel;
- increasing weakness in an arm or leg, fever with back or neck pain, or a sudden, severe headache.
The nearest emergency department is at San Paolo Hospital, Largo Donatori del Sangue 1, Civitavecchia.
About me
I graduated in physiotherapy from Sapienza University of Rome and trained in manual therapy (Maitland and Mulligan concepts). I work mainly with exercise and with people who have muscle and joint pain, especially shoulder and back problems. My most recent training is the Shoulder Pain and Specific Disorders – Advanced Management certification (Fisioscience).
Book an appointment
The quickest way is WhatsApp: tell me what the problem is and when you are in Civitavecchia, and I will reply personally. Please do not send photos of documents or medical reports before we have spoken.
You can also book online on MioDottore (the website is in Italian; your browser can translate it).
